  • January 18 - Dealer informs me he has an allocation for what I am looking for. Vehicle does NOT appear on Toyota.com / Inventory.
  • January 18 - We make a deal at MSRP and I place a $1,000 deposit. Vehicle does NOT appear on Toyota.com / Inventory.
  • February 3 - Dealership shares screenshot of delivery schedule. Vessel due to depart Japan next day. Vehicle does NOT appear on Toyota.com / Inventory.
  • February 27 - My incoming vehicle finally appears on the Toyota/com / Inventory page and is assigned to my dealership and marked as Sale Pending.
  • February 27 - I get a good night's sleep. LOL.
Update
  • March 6 - Vessel Arrives in US (not sure where, though).Arrival at Dealership 3/8-4/1.

So, for anyone that gets a bit anxious, as do I, have faith in the system. Well, have faith in your dealership unless they have already given you reason to not have faith in them.

You got me curious to see if mine finally popped up and it did! Thanks for starting the thread.

Cool. Will you worry less? Not being in control of EVERYTHING sucks. LOL. I get it.
The control issues are real! Ahaha. Actually, my salesperson at the dealership has been awesome and calls with updates, so all good. Just excited to actually see the thing, take it for a test drive and see if I want to spend the $70k...

What I find maddening is any other item I order I pretty much know within a 3-4 hour window when I will receive it but for a $70k vehicle I'm left to bothering a sales person.

It's coming off a production line literally on the other side of the world. I think everything that's happening right now is quite reasonable. Of course not the dealerships. Trying to mark up absurd amounts. I'm just talking about production and delivery, what do you expect,?

I don't have my allocation yet, but just curious if you had tried to build your 4R in the builder and then search the inventory from that screen to see if it showed up?

I ask because I found that I couldn't search for the hybrid models just by looking at the Toyota inventory but they would show up if I built one and then looked. And yes, they were already in the build process when I had tried to look.

I searched on the inventory for what I wanted and there were none allocated to any of the dealerships near me. My son has a good friend that is a Toyota car sales man. I contacted him. Told him what I look it for. He got back to me a few days later and said they have an allocation that has everything I want, but it does not yet appear on the website. I put down a deposit because my son vouched for this salesperson. And I have no regrets

Was just curious. I've found quite a few and I'm willing to travel for one. I do have a deposit to be on the waitlist not too far from me but my sales person has insisted for over a month now that the hybrids haven't even begun production, so I've been calling around. I've found that either they're marking them up for the sheer fact that I'm out of state or I've gone through all the motions of putting the deposit on it and their finance office never contacts me to collect despite me reaching out to them numerous times. Hopefully northern VA will get some in the next allocation.
Hope you get yours soon!

WalMart can tell me with great precision, the exact number and exact location, right down to the aisle and stall, of a $0.95 box of toothpicks. Anywhere in the world. They know how many they have in every single store worldwide. Target, Best Buy, and every other seller-of-things. Amazon, Fedex...They can all do it. I can literally find any one of billions of items with my pocket computer and know it's exact location (and directions on how to get to it that work down to the minute) within seconds. I can even with the flick of a finger get step by step/turn by turn directions to get to that item (or get it to me) with ridiculous accuracy.

Except cars.

This is not a big lift for automakers. Matter of fact, they already do it internally. They know exactly where everything is. They couldn't function if they didn't.

Whatever their reasoning is, they intentionally obfuscate this info.

None of those items you mentioned are comparable in terms of complexities to the design, manufacturing, marketing, sales, distribution and delivery of a new generation of a vehicle. They have build up inventory of parts, etc. I really do not understand what everyone is pissing and moaning about. My experience was easy, found a dealer near me who had an allocation for what I wanted, I am buying it, done. Easy.

I'd put money on the idea that Toyota knows down to the minute when a three cent clip is going to show up for installation at station #312 in the 4 million square meters of Tahara and can trace it from its own production facility to know that. They know exactly where every vehicle they have is, at least until the dealership owns it. It's imperative to their manufacturing to have this information. Especially with the Just In Time way of doing it.

None of the hybrid trims show up on the inventory search for me. The Tacoma has a separate model for the search but the 4Runner does not. I've tried many zip codes even in areas where I know a dealer has a TRD Pro or Trailhunter and it doesn't show up on Toyota.com

The Tacoma Hybrid on car search sites has been busted since day one. The Pros and THs are listed under Sport (non hybrid) most of the time. Dealer sites are busted with the same glitch too LOL

I don't understand your point. So they have the manufacturing process dialed in but you want then to make an exact vehicle to meet everybody individual preference, any where they live in the US, sell it to you at invoice price, deliver it your house the day after you decide that you want it? Being sarcastic of course.

For everyone that has had their dreams crushed by Toyota for this Gen 6 roll-out, go buy something else instead of griping. I don't get it, really.
