My allocation came in today. It’s black on black and I’ve been leaning more towards Ice Cap or Mudbath with Black interior. Sat down to go over the numbers and discovered they added $5k for “scarcity”. The manager came out and let me know they wouldn’t honor the price provided, so taking the $5k scarcity fee was off the table. Total OTD was just over $90k. At the conclusion of our discussions they just stated they’d refund my deposit. My $500 reservation deposit was not returned because they have a computer generated receipt on 1/30 but can’t find a charge in their credit card machine.

I have a 2nd allocation set for 5/27 in Ice Cap with Black interior that I just locked in yesterday as a back up with another dealership. Also have an option out of state for a Mudbath that is on the lot. This is my first experience with Toyota as I’m coming from Subaru. Not the best way to start with Norm Reeves in Mission Valley (San Diego), CA.

Not sure what everyone else is seeing out there but I’ve been seeing $5k-$10k dealership charges for “scarcity” when I’ve called around. I know other companies frowned upon this before so was a little taken back to see it happening again.

$90k for a 4Runner is crazy. I have a hard time knowing MSRP is $70k+ on them as is. Best of luck 🤙🏼

Yeah, SD dealers are pretty shady. I'd suggest buying out of state. Fly out, buy it, and adventure/trip back home.

Every single dealer i called in multiple states along the east coast all had varying markups of 5k - 10k on Mudbath TRD PROs don’t know about the other colors.

I settled for a Mudbath pro with a 2500 markup on a different state.

Will be flying to get it and driving 10 hours back when it gets here.

Contact your CC provider and initiate a chargeback.

Absolute crooks. I would share your experience in the hope it will reduce their business.

I’d show them your CC statement and demand the deposit back. If not, file a claim with your CC bank. Hopefully you have a written contract showing the deposit is fully refundable. If not, it might end up being a snall claims court issue.

man, sorry to hear this dealer is giving you the scumbag maneuver. I'm also coming from Subaru (here in south denver the subaru and toyota dealer are literally next door to each other). Had my deposit in since last April and have the MSRP price in writing but would hate to have waited over a year to see them dream up a 'scarcity' tax. Good luck on the follow-on allocations and hope they are straight up with you!

I also live in San Diego and could not find a dealer I like. So I went with a VERY LARGE dealer in LA. I think it may be the largest in the world. Longo Toyota, https://www.longotoyota.com/2025-toyota-4runner

No Markup. Nothing over MSRP, I was told. Everthing has been great working with them. They sell thousands of Toyota‘s each year. My 4Runner will be coming in May.

awesome! I’ll give them all call today to see what they can offer. Waiting longer isn’t an issue for me.

Thanks. I plan on calling the Manager today about my total experience. At the conclusion I’ll also being calling Toyota Customer Service. I don’t like doing negative reviews as most people typically only review when it’s negative, however I may so someone else doesn’t experience the same thing.

Pretty sure that "90k out the door" is including local and state sales tax, which is 10%, which any new truck is going to have, so that doesn't really add to the argument.

The reality is that, So Cal has a very high COL. A house that is 2 million dollars in La Jolla is going to be 600k in Charlotte, NC.

There seem to be a few options in So Cal with no mark-up, Underground/Red in Santa Monica, Ice/Red in Riverside, Black/Black in Temecula (and also Long Beach), and an Ice/Red in North Hollywood.

Good luck ☘

+1 to this. I placed a deposit on a Limited trim in Carlsbad, CA. Gave me an estimate OTD price (MSRP + state/local tax + reg/title + $85 doc fee) that's it and no other hidden fees nor markups.
