I thought this was interesting and worth sharing. I recently traded in my 2017 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium for the 2025 TRD Off-Road Premium iForce Max Hybrid.
The following is a side-by-side comparison of the insurance cost as quoted by Traveler's Insurance. Note that I have two teenage...
It's really smooth. I think both the hybrid motor and the turbo provide extra torque, and the 8-speed transmission shifts naturally with no overdrive or high-RPM shifting behavior.
I towed a 3,000lb box trailer mostly at highway speeds for about 200 miles this weekend. The Tow Tech package worked well, cameras were helpful. Good visibility in side mirrors, and lots of low end torque and power with the iForce Max in TOW/HAUL mode (though I was being pretty gentle and no...
I haven't done any controlled testing, but I've seen everything from 22.9 while driving around town in ECO mode, all the way down to 14 while towing a 4,000lb box trailer in TOW/HAUL mode. Overall, it's about what I'd expect, but I'll share more once I've collected better data.
Here's a look at how I'm planning to configure my roof rack:
1. Sherpa Capitol platform roof rack with ½ height wind fairing
2. Free Spirit Recreation Aspen V2 roof top tent
3. Rigid E-Series Midnight Optics 40" LED light bar
4. Baja Design LED Scene Lights with Switch
5. Scene lights...
Here's a picture of the cargo area at night with the optional D-Pillar lights. You can see how they provide a much wider beam spread, and illuminate from a higher vantage point, so they make a big difference. I'd estimate the bulbs are about 3 times as bright as the basic cargo area lights.
Here's roughly what the illumination of the D pillar cargo lights look like at night. They are about 3 times as bright as the basic cargo area light, and light up the whole cargo area quite well.
I find it annoying that every time I start my 4Runner, the infotainment screen hits me with a reminder to "Experience Drive Connect." Even when I leave it on Apple Carplay when I turn it off, it aways flashes to this screen when I start back up...
I don't currently have any Toyota Connected...
By default, the 120V AC outlet is switched on the dashboard, so it only delivers power when the engine is running and the "AC 120V" switch is turned on. I'm hoping to upgrade the system so that it can run off the hybrid battery system like a coach battery. There are some examples of this...
I don't have the factory pre-wired AUX Switches on my TRD Off-Road Premium Hybrid, but I do plan to install some OEM switches like the ones from CaliRaisedLED to control the following equipment:
Switch 1: 40" RIGID SR-Series Midnight Optics light bar that will be mounted behind the...
Once you plug the USB-C stick in, go into Music and click the Source button and it'll show up there based on the volume name.
I picked up one of these PNY Elite-X Fit Type-C USB 3.2 Flash Drives with 256GB capacity because it can hold a lot of music and has a very compact profile that blends...
I can't figure this out for the life of me.
How do you disable the feature that moves the driver seat all the way back when you turn off the engine? I like the concept, but it's not great if you've got an adult passenger in the back seat.
I've looked around, and YouTube thinks it should be...
I posted this in another thread, but here's a GIF animation that shows exactly how the Lasfit T3 Switchback looks when installed in the TRD Off-Road Premium headlight assembly. Pretty damn good if you ask me!
That looks interesting. The system I'm building will likely be a combination of components from here:
https://www.redarcelectronics.com/us/toyota/4runner
and here:
https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/718849
... but again, that's why I'm hiring a pro to design and install it for me because it's...
