I don't know if anyone has actually traded their 5th Gen 4Runner in on the purchase of a new 6th Gen. I know that every car purchase is it's own transaction and a lot goes into what a dealer will give you towards a trade-in, I am not asking about that.

I am trying to gauge what the general consensus is out there about how the release of the new 4Runner impacts the value of the old 4Runners.

On another 4Runner forum, some of the 6 Gen haters were saying the value of their 5 Gen has went up drastically due to the release of the poorly designed, over-priced, 4 banger 6 Gen. I don't believe what they are saying to be true but I have really have no idea. I sold my 2016 SR5 Premium a few months ago as soon as the 6 Gen appeared on the internet.

Anybody have any thoughts on the matter they care to share?

I might be able to help with this one. I've got a deposit on a 2025 TRD Sport which is arrive next week. I went to three dealers in the Seattle area. I've got a 2021 TRD PRO with 31,000 miles on it. It's in immaculate shape aside from the chips in the windshield. I was offered 46K, 47.5K and 48K for it without any negotiating. This was very in line with the KBB numbers for this model in excellent condition. The used car prices for 5th Gen T4Rs in our market is ridiculous. Same dealer who offered me $46K has a 2020 TRD PRO with 38,000 miles on it listed for $59K. A buddy of mine just got an offer trade offer of $30K for his 2015 SR5 with 85K on the odometer. This was in Pittsburgh. IMHO - I think the values of the 5th Gens are holding well for now.

Okay, thanks for the info, but is there any reference to how those values were prior to the release of the 6th gen? I know the 4Runner always holds its a value. I am just trying to confirm if the values have actually increased drastically since the release of the new 4Runner or instead are they just holding steady.

With respect to your buddy in Pittsburgh and his $30K trade offer, I guess it depends on what he was buying from that dealer and at what cost. For a point of reference, I sold my 2016 SR5 with 82K miles for $28,250 on private party deal back in October.
