Is it true there is no wiring for a brake controller in the SR5 4x4.

I am thinking of a 2025 4runner sr5 4x4. Building one online there seems to be no way to add the tow tech package which would include the brake controller. after doing some searching online it looks like there is no way to add a factory brake controller. I keep thinking this can't be right there must be something I am missing. even my 2013 Tacoma had a plug for a aftermarket controller.
can any confirm if this can be added?

That's correct. Any 2025 4Runner not built with the Tow Tech Package will *NOT* have a trailer brake controller harness and there, and there's no way to retroactively install the factory harness either. So the only options for installing a trailer brake controller is to go aftermarket - wired or wireless solutions.

I've covered the aftermarket options here:

Hope that helps.

BTW, here's what the wiring looks like behind the dash switches --

@Kokorone's SR5 confirmed that there's no trailer brake controller harness / pre-wiring built in.

thanks for the link .

so it appears the SR5 has a plug for A aftermarket controller and not the factory controller. At this point there is no aftermarket controllers that will plug into this plug. One can assume this is in the works for aftermarket controllers. I see what I can find out.

I have no problem ordering the 4 runnier with the factor package if it didn't add 10,000 to my build.it appears they will not sell it in a sr5,TRD sport, or TRD offroad. looks like you have to jump up to premium before its a option that can be added. I not sure what Toyota is thinking. all they had to do is add the plug and they could have sold a controller. would have been a win for everyone. thanks to this forum as the dealers seem to know nothing.

I suspect that the OEM plug for the Toyota tow package incorporates additional electronic inputs that a non-standard plug does not, leading Toyota to add this variant. The aftermarket will field something fairly quickly. IMO.
