Looking to eventually add the westcott lift to our ORP and was debating which tire size to go with. Any recommendations for the stock 18"wheel? Thinking either a 33 or 34. 35s look great but my wife will be driving daily. Thanks
I'm looking to either go 285/70r18 or 275/70r18 which would be a 33 or 34. Leaning more towards the 285/70, just want to make sure they don't rub before I buy them. The 265/70r18 on there now, which like you said is about the same diameter as the 285/65 in my opinion looks a little too small with stock suspension and would definitely look a little funny with a leveling kit. Picture below is a 285/70Hey Eric,
I have the ORP trim level as well and this is a question I have been asking myself. I am also thinking of a Wescott lift kit, but probably not for a little while. For my level of off roading (at least for the first couple years of ownership) the stock ground clearance will be enough for me.
That being said, I would like to put some wider, more aggressive tires on it to get a bit of a wider stance and a tougher look.
For reference, the tires you and I have (the upgraded wheel package) are 265/70/18 (this is a 32.6" diameter tire) and the wheels have a +45mm offset.
Here is where I am at in my decision-making process...
Looking at tire size 285/65/18 tires (Mickey Thompson Baja Boss are my favorite)
This will leave the same 32.6" diameter but will be 0.8" wider. I will probably also replace the wheels and go with a +35mm offset. This will leave the inside of my tires in the same location they currently are and push the 0.8" of extra width out for a little more poke.
For now, I will probably just add a leveling kit to level out the front and put the new tires on the existing wheels to get a visual of them and that should give me a better idea of the offset I want on some new wheels. (I have to get some tires ordered asap because my son works at a tire store and can get me a 30% discount on them, but he leaves for college in a few weeks lol)
Of course your tire/wheel/lift decisions will depend on the use of your vehicle, but I noticed nobody has responded to you and don't want you to be left hangin, So I wanted to share where I am at in the process.
I am not a tire or wheel expert by any means, but I'm learning and there are some very good members on this forum that can really be helpful. If anyone sees any flaws in my plans or has any input, by all means feel free to chime in here.
The 285/70's would be my first choice, I'm just afraid the 34" diameter will rub before and even after a front leveling kit. Are you planning to put that size on the bone stock suspension? If I add them, it will be with the Westcott kit, but someone on another thread said they would fit without a lift or level, but I've heard mixed things, especially in the Tacoma world. The 285/70's would be my first choice, I'm just afraid the 34" diameter will rub before and even after a front leveling kit. What width are you going to go with?I hope to be getting 33.2" this Thursday, no lift. It's only 0.3 inch up on each side so I think it will be fine.
