None of the hybrid trims show up on the inventory search for me. The Tacoma has a separate model for the search but the 4Runner does not. I've tried many zip codes even in areas where I know a dealer has a TRD Pro or Trailhunter and it doesn't show up on Toyota.com
That’s what I’m saying. Go to Toyota.com and build a pro / th (or whichever hybrid you’re after) and then click the inventory button after you’ve built it. They will show up this way. I’ve been doing it this way for a month and all the hybrids will show up.

I don't understand your point. So they have the manufacturing process dialed in but you want then to make an exact vehicle to meet everybody individual preference, any where they live in the US, sell it to you at invoice price, deliver it your house the day after you decide that you want it? Being sarcastic of course.

For everyone that has had their dreams crushed by Toyota for this Gen 6 roll-out, go buy something else instead of griping. I don't get it, really.
Ocean travel, and off loading of the vehicles I can give a pass. After that I shouldn't have to bug anyone. I should be able to click a link just like for any other product and see detailed tracking.

WAT

What I find maddening is any other item I order I pretty much know within a 3-4 hour window when I will receive it but for a $70k vehicle I'm left to bothering a sales person.
I'm just talking about production and delivery

That's what we were talking about. Don't move the goalpost lol

Toyota knows exactly where your car is. They know what slot on which ship and the latitude and longitude of that ship.

At this price point, you'd think they could throw a $20 AirTag on the dash.

You got me curious to see if mine finally popped up and it did! Thanks for starting the thread.
I paid a deposit on an ORP weeks ago. I require a brake controller and that one doesn't have the Tow Tech pkg. which I prefer over aftermarket. So my dealer, an extremely patient man, has attempted 3 times at dealer trades. Nobody has wanted to trade until today (attempt #4). This ORP finished assembly 4 days ago and is already on the Toyota inventory list and does include Tow Tech . Scheduled to ship on about March 12 which seems quick.

Ah! I see the URL actually has the hybrid in it but they don't have a button for it on the search landing page.

I don't have my allocation yet, but just curious if you had tried to build your 4R in the builder and then search the inventory from that screen to see if it showed up?

I ask because I found that I couldn't search for the hybrid models just by looking at the Toyota inventory but they would show up if I built one and then looked. And yes, they were already in the build process when I had tried to look.
Interesting....I hadn't been able to search the inventory and find any hybrids, but when I built one I could. I built the one I have on the way and it doesn't show up -- and my arrival should be in the next two weeks. I don't think my dealership (Longo Toyota) participates in the online inventory/SmartPath system?

  • January 18 - Dealer informs me he has an allocation for what I am looking for. Vehicle does NOT appear on Toyota.com / Inventory.
  • January 18 - We make a deal at MSRP and I place a $1,000 deposit. Vehicle does NOT appear on Toyota.com / Inventory.
  • February 3 - Dealership shares screenshot of delivery schedule. Vessel due to depart Japan next day. Vehicle does NOT appear on Toyota.com / Inventory.
  • February 27 - My incoming vehicle finally appears on the Toyota/com / Inventory page and is assigned to my dealership and marked as Sale Pending.
  • February 27 - I get a good night's sleep. LOL.
So, for anyone that gets a bit anxious, as do I, have faith in the system. Well, have faith in your dealership unless they have already given you reason to not have faith in them.
Mine was never publicly advertised but I got a spec sheet link from the salesman. You can get a little bit of info from Toyota.com from the VIN, but you need the VIN and you need to be logged in. But the spec sheet link you can get from the salesman has more info.

Well for me, never having bought directly from a Toyota Dealership or having a connection I’m finding it mentally tough to lock into a single dealership. It’s hard to pick one I should go with because I’m willing to travel. I’ve been stalking the Toyota inventory daily (using the build first-then “find matching inventory” method). Now worried the next allocation I’m going to start calling these dealerships that don’t say “Sale Pending” and I’m going to hear bad news. Looking for a Mudbath TRD Pro at MSRP. Is that too much to ask😭

Your best bet is to call the dealerships you're willing to drive to and ask to talk with a salesperson. Tell them what you're looking for and ask them to call you when they have something allocated that is close to what you want. They may put you on a call list. Ask them to email you the spec sheet when they get something close. If the advertised price is close enough, tell them you want it and to go ahead and reserve it for you. Ask what additional fees you should expect at time of sale beyond the advertised price on the spec sheet. This sounds stupid (to me), but there will likely be additional dealer proc/doc fees beyond the standard Toyota processing and handling. They may also ask for a deposit. This seems to vary between $0 and $1,000. If you haven't done so already, I would ask to test drive one - with same engine option (hybrid versus non hybrid) and as close to the same trim as you can find. If there's not a test vehicle available, you can ask to drive a Tacoma with the same engine and similar trim level, just to get a feel for how it drives and feels to you. Just my two cents from my recent experience, but people have slightly different experiences on these forums. Good luck!

One last thought... Read google reviews of the dealerships and look for salesperson names that get consistent positive experiences from recent customers. You can ask for those names specifically when you call. Maybe this is obvious to some folks, but I think it's worth mentioning for folks that might not have thought to do this. There's also a lot of really bad salespeople out there, so this can help to avoid them as well.

Thank you man, this is all very helpful. I think I got a rotten experience out the gate calling my first two dealerships where I have moved in Texas and went the route of looking through inventory. The first two dealerships I talked with required me to sign an Intent to Purchase from them. I didn't want to do this so I could keep my options open. Everyone I have been reading on here seems to not have had to sign that and can have multiple dealerships looking for them at once.

I will call some more that I am willing to drive to and hopefully talk with someone that wants to help me through the process, and not leave me a voicemail saying they had a Mudbath TRD Pro allocated to them. Then when I call and talk with them for like 5 minutes that Mudbath TRD Pro miraculously turned into a Black TRD ORP. Then I was trying to get information out of the guy for another 10 minutes about the TRD Pro situation while simultaneously being pushed to buy the car that is not the trim or color I wanted.
