I've been looking for a thread on this, but I haven't found one. I've got a TRD Sport Premium about to hit port this week. I greatly dislike the small sidewalls in the 20" wheels (265/55/20). I don't dislike the wheels, so I'm wanting to throw some beefier tires on ASAP. Stocks are 31.5". Will 65R fit without a lift? 70R? I'm willing to move/trim fender liner and the bumper a tad if needed.

I'm going to try 275/70R18 on the 13th when my wheels arrive.

My ORP came with 265/70/R18, which is only a 1.1" increase in tire diameter (0.55" increase in distance from axel center to ground) over your current tires. Mine are ~32.6". The tires you are looking at, 265/65/R20 should be ~33.6", ~1" in diameter increase over my tires, but ~2.1" in diameter increase over your current ~31.5" tires. The suspension is a little different between our trim levels, but I doubt it's much different and I'm guessing I'd be ok with a 1" diameter (0.5" radius) increase. They're all 265mm wide. Here's my ORP on the delivery truck next to a Sport for reference...

275/70R18 is ~33.2". Since you have 18" wheels, I'm guessing you will get 265/70R18 stock like me. So you'll gain ~0.6" in diameter, or ~0.3" in radius (height increase from ground to axel) and 0.4" width increase (side poke of additional 0.2" on both sides, 0.4" stance increase). I can't imagine Toyota cut things tight enough for that to make enough of a difference to rub. But I'm curious what others get away with before other modifications are needed.

Tacoma owners have been able to fit 285/70/17 tires on stock suspension -- with no lift kit, no rub and no other mods needed.

Looks great too on this TRD Off-Road. These are BFG KO2 tires in 285/17R17.

285/70R17 are ~32.7" in diameter, which are only ~0.1" greater in diameter than the stock tires on my 4Runner ORP. However, I might get a set of 17" wheels for my next set of tires, probably with a slightly wider offset. So, I might end up with this size tires in KO3s, or something a little bigger if I do a lift. I think the OP wanted to stick with the 20" Sport wheels.

My TRD Sport arrives next week. I've got a set of 275/70/R18 KO3s waiting my garage for the arrival. I've placed this tire next to the 265/70/R17 KO2 that's on my current rig and this tire looks massive in comparison. One thing you want to keep in mind - Take those TPMS sensors out of your 20" wheels and tires. The parts person at my Toyota dealer said they are a new sensor (not the same as Tacoma). The new sensors run about $100 each from Toyota and they could not guarantee aftermarket sensors would be compatible with the new system that Toyota is using for 4Runners and Landcruisers.
