2025 4Runner (6th Gen) News, Specs, Engines, Release Date, Production Date & Preview Renderings -- Insider Info (as of 7/30/23)

This latest 2025 4Runner (6th gen) intel comes from a long-time credible insider source (who has also provided reliable info for some of our other sites):

2025 4Runner is heavily evolutionary in design:

• features similar front end design to the new 2024 Tacoma -- with angular, aggressive styling
• the C pillar will be much more upright for better ease of entry
• not too different in styling from the current vehicle
• 4Runner TRD PRO model will still be offered

Engines:

• power is now provided exclusively by the 2.4 turbocharged T24A-FTS range (like the 2024 Tacoma)
  • Here are the 2024 Tacoma's engines & transmissions:
    • Base 2.4-liter turbo, 228 hp/243 lb-ft and eight-speed auto [2024 Tacoma specs]
    • i-Force 2.4-liter turbo, 270 hp/310 lb-ft and six-speed manual [2024 Tacoma specs]
    • i-Force 2.4-liter turbo, 278 hp/317 lb-ft and eight-speed auto [2024 Tacoma specs]
    • i-Force Max 2.4-liter turbo hybrid, 326 hp/465 lb-ft and eight-speed auto [2024 Tacoma specs]
• 6-cylinder is dropped

Timing:

• Job 1 production expected July 2024
• Will be Model Year 2025

Misc:

• prototypes have been on US soil in limited instances, for marketing and testing purposes since Q1 2021.
• the most firm date on a prototype unit in USA was March 2021.

Based off the above intel and the revealed 2024 Tacoma design, we believe our renderings should be good predictions of what the 2024 4Runner will look like!

Glad to hear the basic design will be very similar to 5G. I like the new Taco front end. Not sure how I feel about a more vertical C pillar, but easier access to the rear seat would be nice. I haul adults in the back seat quite a bit. I really wonder if the M/T will be available on 4R.

These are the best renderings so far, in my opinion. I would like Toyota to keep the same wide bottom grill they've had since 2nd gen. Hope they keep the more simple taillights, also. Big loss if the power rear window is removed. Would like to see a panoramic moon roof, too. M/T would be great! @sub_sonarman

If Toyota is really going after the Wrangler and Bronco crowd, as some have suggested, they should go back to the steel bumpers that Gen 1-3 had. It would be a lot easier to add winches and lights without cutting the plastic fascia.

I would love to see steel bumpers as well. I agree, I think they will really step up the game for offroading capability as well as accessories.

It would, but I'd be absolutely shocked. BUT... Ford and Jeep seem to think that the market is there, and Toyota has already spent the powertrain development money for the Tacoma.

Even some good pre-existing horizontal cut lines would help.

I am going to be honest here, I love the rear, side, roof, flares but something about the front end just doesn't sit well with me. I know it's a rendering and not an official design and it's purely speculation but something seems off still. Other then that, I can't wait to see what Toyota officially comes up with. I'm either going to purchase a 6th gen 4runner or Toyota's new Landcruiser.

Personally I’d love if Toyota not only brought back the manual but also the removable roof from the 1st gen and it would help them complete more directly with the Wrangler/Bronco and help separate it from the upcoming Land Cruiser 250. There's no getting around the 4cyl turbo now for sure. A MT option would be a great thing to compete against bronco and wrangler. I'm still very hopeful that Toyota will bring back the option of being able to take off the top from behind the driver area or at least make it to where the roof panels come off like the bronco. In that case the back window needs to still be a roll down and not like all the other new SUVs in where they just pop open now

I haven't seen any indications there will be any sort of removable top, but I'm pretty sure the roll down rear window will stick around. There was some speculation the new Tundra was going to get rid of the rear roll down window, but there was too much customer demand for it. I think the same is true for 4R.
