We are looking to get rid of our JLU 392 for a 4 Runner TRD Pro. Long story short our Jeep has been out of service for 5 months waiting on a part and the part they just replaced didn’t fix the problem so they have to order the actual part that everyone has already been waiting for. This has made us very disappointed in Jeep and has us soured to Stellantis period. Don’t get me wrong I really like Jeeps just not the company behind them and the support they give.

I am on a list for a TRD Pro but am number 4. I’m wondering if I am even going to be able to get into one by this summer if at all. I would prefer the Trailhunter but I just don’t like the bronze accents the same way I don’t like it on the JLU and I don’t want to have to buy new wheels right out of the box.

I’m not new to Toyota, had a 1991 standard cab, 94 extended cab and a 5 Tacoma followed by a 98 4runner, loved them all. The only issue I ever had was with the 95 Tacoma v6 blown head gasket not long after I got it.

Has anyone already made the jump already to the 6th gen from the Jeep, and how did they like it?

I am a Wrangler fan & have had several over the years; including a JLU, JK, & TJ.

I will say the Toyota build & part quality is apparent & felt from the moment you close the door on the 4Runner. Then while driving you realize how tight everything is. That’s not something I experienced with past Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles.

Nothing is truly comparable to the top-down & doors off feeling of a Wrangler, but thus far the feeling that comes with the rear window down & moon roof open on the 4Runner is not a bad runner up experience (pun intended?).

Like you, I think the feeling I was in search of was a vehicle that is truly built to last 10+ years with proper maintenance + having the “go anywhere, do anything” attitude of a Wrangler. So far, the 6th Gen is checking all those boxes for me!

It's hard to beat top and doors off that's for sure.

You are right I want something reliable for the long run that isn't a crap shoot on service times. I just hope we will be able to get into one over the summer.

My wife really doesn't want to get rid of it but I have no faith in them any longer. She does like the Toyota though, so it's not the end of the world.

So in sorta in your boat right now. I have a 2024 392 and on a couple wait lists for a TRD PRO. I previously had a 2013 JKU that I sold for a 5th Gen T4R, sold that after a year when the JL came out. I had a 2019 JLUR and after a year of convincing my wife, I was finally able to upgrade to the 392.

No issues with my 392, still hands down the best Wrangler I've ever owned. It was nice going from the JKU to the T4R, but the JL was such a huge improvement from the JKs that got me back to a Jeep.

I don't wheel anymore and going topless/doorless is becoming more of a hassle for me. I was looking for something more practical, but also be able to go offroad. I'm going to miss having a v8 hemi, but maybe not having to fill up every week with my commute. I'm looking forward to the creature comforts that the new 6th gen has that a JL doesn't.

I alternated between Jeeps (12) and Toyotas (19) since the early 80's. I would be ejecting on your JLU if I had the same level of problems as you report.

This will be my fourth 4Runner (and probably last). While we haven't received our 6gen yet, I did test drive one last week, and signed a PO for a TRD Off Road this week.

Overall, I trust Toyota far more than Jeep, even though none of my CJs, JKs, JT's and JL's ever gave me major trouble. Although at present, we plan to retain our Gladiator for another year, while trading our Toyota Crown for the 4Runner.

We did just get our Jeep back and the oil leak seems to be fixed. However the front drivers shock is leaking...lol. This thing only has 5200 miles on it.

My wife doesn't want to get rid of it but I have lost faith in it and more importantly in Stellantis. For me it's time to move on and looking forward to get into a new 4runner.

The only thing we have a problem with is the opportunity to test drive the model we are interested in, TRD Pro, they are still unavailable on a lot in our area and to find one on a lot is already going to be hard already. We are on a list so once it come in we can test it then.
