2023 TRD Off Road Doublecab Manual
Please Toyota build a reasonably priced 4runner with a manual transmission. I have had a few Toyota 4WD's over the years and finally hit the stage in life to be able to buy a brand new vehicle. I ordered a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road Premium and chose to wait for the manual transmission option. Now my wife is about ready to upgrade cars and she also wants a manual transmission. Does anyone know if Toyota would ever configure this new 6gen to include a manual transmission? I have to believe I am not the only throwback on the planet that would be thrilled to purchase a simple SR5 4runner with basic A/C and stereo and a manual transmission in a 4wd SUV.

Let me know where to and how many goats or chickens or Sasquatches must be sacrificed to the Toyota Gods to make this happen.

Thanks. Steve

you do realize the manuals are detuned vs the auto's, yes it very slight but it is.

also didnt someone/something said that the manuals are right at the limit for max torque threshold vs the auto's have a bigger torque max limit?

I've read/heard that too. My personal take on that is...That came from a Toyota Engineer. Their approach to things like that is with an eye to durability and longevity. I've slapped heads, cam, headers, and supercharger on a car and had it over 700 hp on a transmission and clutch that were originally designed for just over half that. It lived just fine for a year until I had my new clutch on the shelf and I started doing no-lift shifts between 3-4 at 100MPH...Then it burned up the factory clutch. Put the Monster clutch in, and ran it for 10 years on the factory trans. That car ran like a scalded cat until the day I sold it. That was a couple of years ago, and the guy that bought it still runs it hard and it hasn't broke yet.

So yeah. You're leaving 10-20 hp (whatever the number was, it was small) on the table, but I'd bet a sizable sum on whether or not anybody's butt-dyno could reliably tell a difference in 20 crank hp on a 5k lb SUV. Hell, in the Taco, the 0-60 times on the hybrid vs the non-hybrid belie the almost 50 hp (to say nothing of the torque) delta between them. I seriously doubt it would harm the reliability of the trans either. But they always play it super safe.

It would be really cool if they did offer a stripped down 4Runner with a manual and some crank windows. I wouldn't buy it, but it would cool LOL
