Looking to eventually add the westcott lift to our ORP and was debating which tire size to go with. Any recommendations for the stock 18"wheel? Thinking either a 33 or 34. 35s look great but my wife will be driving daily. Thanks

Hey Eric,

I have the ORP trim level as well and this is a question I have been asking myself. I am also thinking of a Wescott lift kit, but probably not for a little while. For my level of off roading (at least for the first couple years of ownership) the stock ground clearance will be enough for me.

That being said, I would like to put some wider, more aggressive tires on it to get a bit of a wider stance and a tougher look.

For reference, the tires you and I have (the upgraded wheel package) are 265/70/18 (this is a 32.6" diameter tire) and the wheels have a +45mm offset.

Here is where I am at in my decision-making process...
Looking at tire size 285/65/18 tires (Mickey Thompson Baja Boss are my favorite)
This will leave the same 32.6" diameter but will be 0.8" wider. I will probably also replace the wheels and go with a +35mm offset. This will leave the inside of my tires in the same location they currently are and push the 0.8" of extra width out for a little more poke.

For now, I will probably just add a leveling kit to level out the front and put the new tires on the existing wheels to get a visual of them and that should give me a better idea of the offset I want on some new wheels. (I have to get some tires ordered asap because my son works at a tire store and can get me a 30% discount on them, but he leaves for college in a few weeks lol)

Of course your tire/wheel/lift decisions will depend on the use of your vehicle, but I noticed nobody has responded to you and don't want you to be left hangin, So I wanted to share where I am at in the process.

I am not a tire or wheel expert by any means, but I'm learning and there are some very good members on this forum that can really be helpful. If anyone sees any flaws in my plans or has any input, by all means feel free to chime in here.

I'm looking to either go 285/70r18 or 275/70r18 which would be a 33 or 34. Leaning more towards the 285/70, just want to make sure they don't rub before I buy them. The 265/70r18 on there now, which like you said is about the same diameter as the 285/65 in my opinion looks a little too small with stock suspension and would definitely look a little funny with a leveling kit. Picture below is a 285/70

The 285/70's would be my first choice, I'm just afraid the 34" diameter will rub before and even after a front leveling kit. Are you planning to put that size on the bone stock suspension? If you get em before me, let me know your results.

If I add them, it will be with the Westcott kit, but someone on another thread said they would fit without a lift or level, but I've heard mixed things, especially in the Tacoma world.

Oh, my apologies. I was thinking you were looking to upsize and then get a lift kit later. Looks like most people are going with the 35's on the Wescott lift kit. Sometimes the 35's look a bit cartoonish to me on the 4R (I know I will probably get roasted on here for saying that). While 35's on 17's is probably the way to go to maximize its off-road capabilities, IMHO 34's would look fantastic.

I hope to be getting 33.2" this Thursday, no lift. It's only 0.3 inch up on each side so I think it will be fine.

What width are you going to go with?

They will be the wildpeak at4 275/70R18
That is the size I am interested in for the TRD OR. Did you get those 275/70R18 on yet?

If so, did you get it aligned after? Any rubbing? Speedometer vs GPS reported speed diffs? Any before and after pics showing the width diff (front/rear view)?

I agree with you too, there are some really good members at what works and don’t . To get a response tell exactly what you trying to accomplish. He said wife daily driver what got people scare to respond. Their lady out there have better off road vehicles then us men. Can your wife get in a raise vehicle every day duties. The new tires will raise the vehicle and the lift kit. Off road tires don’t do good on the freeway over 60mph in the rain. They are very noisy maybe to her liking. Some of these member their wife hate there vehicles. Ask your wife what she wants. Everytime I pick my mom up she complains about getting in and out of my jeep . Good luck 👍

I'm in the same boat but my ORP isn't coming for a few months (Canada) so I've got time to do a bit more research. My big thing is I want a more hybrid rugged terrain tire rather than just an AT. MT Baja boss is on the list too but a big thing for me is I absolutely do not want E load tires that will be hard as concrete and not needed on this size vehicle (unless towing or extreme offroad). I also don't want tires too wide. So I'm looking at potentially going to a 17" rim as it seems more options and I'd rather have more rubber to tire ratio.

I'll be doing more research for what combination of tire height, width, pattern, diameter and weight. There's definitely a lot that goes into it.
