I put a deposit on my trailhunter a few months ago. Today I got an email from the dealer stating their current inventory is exempt from tariffs, but anything that hadn't cleared customs by 3 Apr (not sure the exact day tariffs went into effect) would have tariffs applied.

I've seen some starting to arrive at dealers, but not in my state, in Nevada. Does anyone know how allocations are going and what the chances are my dealers allocation has made it thru customs prior to tariffs going into effect?

How are any other new buyers dealing with tariffs being passed on to the customer? I plan on just walking away if they try to get me to shoulder tariffs costs. The trailhunter is already expensive, tariffs on top would be a real guy punch.

Thanks

I think you are good for now. Tariffs are paused for 90 days except China.

Your dealer sounds like they have no idea what they’re talking about if they sent that email out just yesterday. When tariffs were first put into effect, Toyota themselves stated that they intended to maintain prices, at least for the time being.

I haven’t heard of anybody paying a tariff on top of MSRP but if they have (which would be insane, just walk at that point), it is just the dealer price gouging. And since then, about 3 days ago or so, the tariffs were paused for 90 days (aside from China).

you should be fine. If you are curious check your dealer’s website to see if they have any of their allocated vehicles listed. There is also an allocations spreadsheet linked on this form which is updated daily with all of the allocations on Toyotas website. You may find one in there that might be yours. Or, ask your dealer if you haven’t. They should be able to tell you if they’ve gotten an allocation and where it is in the process.

Run as fast as you can away from that dealer. They are trying to price gouge you, using the excuse of tariffs, which is just a flat out lie.
