I'm starting to overthink it... but to offroad noob like myself Offroad Premium seems just as capable as it's TH brother but at $10K less. I don't care as much about looks and finer materials in interior and it's more about utility of the vehicle. Am I missing something?

I think it depends really in what you want ultimately to get out of things.

If you are into standard offroading then even a "softroader" or crossover might be ok, in that case the 4Runner will be more then capable in any trim level.

However, if you want to get into things a little bit more deeply then it's best to 'specialize'.

If you wana go fast through sand - that's your TRD Pro while if you wana go over almost anything and camp and get to places that no one else can - Trialhunter

Though... something that is also a thought would be aftermarket customization which would be better with a more basic model then top of the line
As in if you wanted to raise the body by a few inches and stick say 35" tires on the thing etc...

Not sure if the Offroad Premium comes with rock crawlers or even the trailer breaking controls but that's another reason for Trailhunter ;-)

The 4Runner Trailhunter has a lot of features that can make it much more capable (for off-roading / overlanding) than stock Offroad Premium:
  • Higher clearance front bumper
  • High mount air intake / snorkel
  • Roof rack
  • Rigid color switching LED fog lights
  • LED light bar
  • Rock rails
  • Steel skid plate, transfer case protector, rear differential protector, composite fuel tank protector
  • Onboard air compressor
  • Old Man Emu shocks
  • SDM (Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism AKA sway bar disconnect)
  • Toyo Open Country A/T III all-terrain tires

Of course, the utility an owner get from these Trailhunter features depends on each owner's particular use case.

The TrailHunter also comes with the 2400W A/C that the ORP doesn't have and is not even an option that can be included.

Because of the Hybrid power plant! I think all iForce Max engines get this don't they?

Having that extra battery in the rear allows for a larger inverter is my guess to that one....

It didn't seem all hybrid has it, from the table posted here. It's handy to have 2400W A/C ready 🙂

You're right! I just checked Toyota .com and seems TRD Sport Premium gets the 400W.

I'm sure you can change that later though. Even if Toyota officially doesn't have an "upgrade" option, there will definitely be a way to add a beefier inverter that might even go beyond 2400W??

(oh hang on... TRD Sport Premium doesn't have iForce Max engine option.... just realized!)

TRD Offroad iFroce Max - *does* have this option of 2400W socket which iForce does not.
