Piggyback devices + forced induction sounds like a bad idea in general.

There is a lot more going into the actual boost calculation than what these things are able to control and in modifying the signals to the ECU, how many events of the vehicle doing something it’s not supposed to before actual damage is done?

My buddy out in Texas had OTT done as did I on my Tundra’s and those guys are doing it right with a proper tune. I’m getting mine tuned as soon as I finish the break-in period.

I completely agree that a proper tune is always the best and most tailored solution, but piggyback tuning devices with turbo engine has been around for a long time now and proven to be a fine solution. I ran piggyback tunes on BMW 3 series with turbo N54 and N55 engines for years without any issues at all, along with many other BMW owners.

Looking forward to seeing your 6th gen results and experience with a custom tune though! 👍 How many more miles until break-in is complete on your 4Runner?

That’s fair, I don’t have much experience in the BMW world. I come from Subaru’s where if I’m not using a proper engine management system especially with aftermarket parts, things will go bad and quickly lol.

Obviously I’m not sure if this platform will be quite as sensitive but people are already throwing intakes on Tacoma’s and seeing a CEL from that alone. The modding probably won’t stop there either if there’s additional power to be had.

Sorry to confuse, I’m ordering next month. Was really torn between the gas/hybrid but I don’t see myself passing on the extra power.

From the description, this is not a piggyback tune and won't leave any trace of flashing for warranty purposes.
I will definitely tune the 4R. When I tuned my Si, completely changed the car and made it so much more enjoyable to drive. I'll always tune my cars, definitely the best bang for your buck in terms of hp/tq gains.
@JustDSM, can we gat an update or thread going on this forum?
Almost a shame not to tune a turbo engine. With how conservative manufacturers are when it comes to pushing the engines, there's usually much power to be extracted via tuning and still stay within safe parameters.

Are there any truly untraceable tuning devices / software? What does OTT tune do to make it untraceable compared to piggyback tunes?

In my initial post I included a link to another forum where I found the info about the OTT Tune. Looking at that post now and I see the link is gone. Maybe the Mods/Admin removed b/c it was a different forum 🤷‍♂️
Anyway, to try to answer your question, I've attached a screenshot on their explanation as to why it's not traceable.
Also here's the LINK again.
And yes, I agree 100% on how it's a shame to not tune a turbo engine. It really wakes up the car and you realize how much more it's capable of. And if you're not always doing WOT or abusing the car, it's a safe mod.
