Hey there. Has anyone heard of the internal camera system being able to function like a dash cam system? Rivian (Gear Guard), Tesla (Sentry)and others use their internal camera system to record everything so a dash cam isn't needed. Will Toyota go that way with the 4Runners, specifically the TRD Pro? Seems like it could just be a software update and then plug in an external SSD drive to record it all... Thanks in advance?

Other than the ones you mentioned, and the Corvette about 10 years ago...I'm not aware of this being A Thing. Most manufacturers seem to stay out of that space.

Thanks man. I appreciate the above. It would be so great for them to do it. I'm not an engineer or a software coder, but I wouldn't think it would be something that difficult to do. Oh well...

How's it coming on your TRD Pro?

Chevy did it a decade ago (no idea if the new Vettes have the feature), so how hard could it be? LOL

"My" Pro isn't coming at all yet :D

I have to drive one before I buy. I keep vehicles until they start costing me too much time/effort, so I have to really like it.

4Runner has to beat the LandCruiser or a TRD Pro Tundra before I plonk down this much $$$

So yeah. I've got months before I can even make the choice. At that point, I'll just go into one of the Broker guy's threads and buy what I want.

I hear ya! I got lucky and have a Black on Black one that just got built on Tuesday, with delivery to the dealer up in NW Montana between 3.10 and 4.1. I've never owned a 4Runner (or a Toyota), haven't seen one in person and haven't driven one. So, I'm excited to take it for a test drive to see how I like it and then decide from there. I currently have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland High Altitude and am thinking about the 2025 Grand Cherokee Summit, the LandCruiser or the 4Runner TRD Pro. Any thoughts?

I've owned pretty much every brand except Ford (nothing against them, I just haven't been drawn to anything they made at a time when I was buying), and I've never had anything quite as problem free as this Tundra has been. I've replaced brakes, the battery, and an alternator. That's it. But now the cats are going bad. After commuting and kid-hauling for 12 years, it's starting to show it's age and I still need a reliable driver that I don't need to drop off for days at a time while getting repaired. Due to it's rock solid reliability, I'm only seriously looking at Toyotas. I still may just buy a used 5th Gen 4Runner, just because it'll be an absolute unit, just like my Tundra has been.

What internal camera system? What will I have to disable?
The internal camera system for front, back up and rear cameras. I was hoping like the EV's, they would record and act as an internal dash cam, as opposed to purchasing a separate dash cam. I don't think you'll have to disable anything.

Sooo... _not_ actually internal? Not inside the cabin, watching the passengers?

I believe that Toyota does have a cabin facing camera as part of there traffic jam assist feature.

Thanks! I guess my communication skills aren't that great today! Essentially, the 4Runner has 6 or so cameras on the outside of the vehicle. I was hoping they could all be used as a "dashcam" to monitor the car when you were away, when you're driving, and record all the video to an internal or external drive. Rivian does this through their Gear Guard feature and Tesla does it through their Sentry mode. It would be cool if Toyota did something like this, so we all wouldn't have to buy a dash cam looking forward and another one set up in the back looking to the rear, to protect ourselves. Hope that makes better sense!
