I read in another thread that A-Trac is now automatic in the 6G. If this is true, what turns it on? 4Lo? Crawl mode? MTS? Specifically on the TRD Pro as that's what I'm planning on purchasing. Been trying to find a more detailed explanation and can't find a detailed answer anywhere. Thanks for your help.

I don't know where it is, but I did hear that for 6 gen it is now active while in 4HI - previously it was only in 4LO, and maybe 2HI.

A -Trac stands for automatic traction. Maybe try page 431 in the Owners Manual. It is found under the Owners section on the Toyota website. I hope this helps.

https://www.toyota.com/owners/warranty-owners-manuals/
On page 431 I see "TRAC". Is this the same as A-Trac? From what I can tell from the manual "TRAC" automatically comes on when it senses wheel slip and the only choice the user has is to temporarily turn it off. Am I missing something?

Toyota seems to have programmed it into the traction control system in all the 4x4 models. From what I understand, it's integrated into the different MTS modes or when it's in 4Lo. In the full time 4x4 system it's active in 4Lo. I can't say that I'm 100% certain about this since Toyota doesn't refer to A-TRAC anymore, including in the Land Cruiser, GX and LX.

So when you say they programmed it into the traction control system/integrated into the MTS modes, that means, for example, if I’m in Rock mode, it will come on when needed?

I’m surprised the YouTube reviewers (and it seems like NONE of them) have even brought it up during their reviews of the new 4Runner. That surprises me because they always point out and rave about the A-Trac system in their older reviews when they are filming their rock crawling.

Yes. Instead of having to press a button they took the Land Rover route and has it always active in off road modes or in 4LO. Its intervention is different depending on the MTS mode you're in, similar to how Land Rover has been doing their Terrain Response system for many years now. This makes much more sense than having to press a button to turn it on.

You're probably thinking about VSC or Vehicle Stability Control. VSC senses when the vehicle is slipping and does things like decreasing the throttle in order to try and keep the vehicle under control.

Thank you for the explanation. I wish that the owners manual went into this.
