I’ve noticed that a lot of people will have a lot of negative opinions about the TRD Sport trim specially if it was compared to the the TRD Off-Road trim. I think the Sport trim is there for reason, not everyone are taking their rig off road every week, some people are driving 99% of the year in the city and go off road once a year or something, so I think the sport tuned suspension make sense. In addition, the matching fender flares looks really good instead of the cheap looking plastic one on the Off-Road. The hood scoop and the wheels look sharp also. Of course it’s missing some functions that are on the Off-Road but if you took a Sport trim rig off road once in a while it will do ok.

What do you guys think?

I think that the vast majority of people that buy a 4Runner do it because it has ALWAYS been a reliable, well-equipped, and "cool" vehicle to own and NOT because they want to go hard-core off-roading. Any 4Runner trim can handle light trails/camping. Nearly 40% of the people that responded to this poll said they will do mods just for the looks and had no plans to go off roading.

It's the hard-core off-roaders or maybe people that live in geographic areas that get more extreme weather, those people focus on all the off-road capabilities and are more vocal about it on a forum such as this.

The casual 4Runner, street only drivers, they don't get as involved in these discussions as the hard-core people do. If the vast majority of the people on this 4Runner forum are not going off-road, you can bet that an even bigger majority of 4Runner owners that do not visit this forum are also not going off-road and don't need cameras underneath the chassis, skid plates, heavy duty suspension, etc. Most people driving a 4Runner does not care about that stuff, IMO.

Everybody likes what they like, and that is fine. Pick the trim level you like and make a move, go put down a deposit on the one that suits you best.

also take the forums as a grain of salt. forums contain maybe (guess) 10% of the current general buying pool.

most people buying a 4R or any BoF toyota vehicle dont even know about a forum.

hell most American's still think chrome is considered high end feature from the old caddy days
