Just took delivery of my 6th gen '25 SR5 RWD in Underground. Coming from a '13 Tacoma TRD Sport Double Cab. Prior to that, owned a '05 Tacoma TRD Sport Access Cab.
Main reason for making the switch from Tacoma to 4runner was the backseat space and no longer needing a truck bed. The new 4th gen Tacomas are painfully small and tight in the back seat area. I have two kids (8, 11). Wife owns a '21 4Runner SR5.
Comparisons to the second gen Tacoma, the '25 T4R definitely has more get up. Especially getting on those freeway on-ramps. My daily commute involves a highway that goes up a mountain, and the T4R is way smoother. Going to the 8-speed from the 5-speed, you can really feel the difference in smoothness. Steering is much easier and smoother. So far I'm averaging 22.5 mpg. My Tacoma would get 17-18mpg. The 5th and 6th gen T4R's seem to attack speed bumps better than my TRD Sport Tacoma.
Compared to the wife's '21 5th gen, I will say the V6 give off less low-end engine noise, like a more muted hum, but in terms of giddy up, the 6th gen is more sports car and the 5th gen feels more truck-like; smooth but solid. Whereas the 6th gen, the acceleration feeling is much more noticeable.
Couple thoughts about the "base model" SR5:
-The interior feels very refined. Grab bars, shifter, dials, etc. have much more "bulk" and seem beefier compared to the 5th gen and 2nd gen Tacoma.
-The 8" infotainment screen is more than enough. Would I love the 14"? Perhaps. But I don't feel like I'm missing out with the 8", and I'm a tech guy.
-Cloth seats are solid and comfortable. I love the ride height adjustment coming from the Tacoma, it's a huge difference.
-The plastic trim doesn't bother me. Yes, the 5th gen has more soft trim on the doors, but the arm rest soft trim on the door in the 6th gen is enough for me.
-More areas with different types of storage, but smaller storage spaces.
-The interior lighting is painfully weak. Hoping there are aftermarket solutions out there. The wife's 5th gen has upgraded LED's and it's no comparison.
-The dark gray/black SR5 wheels have really grown on me.
-The wife commented on the "smaller" 245/70/17 Yokohama Geolanders. She said change those out to bigger tires (YES!)
Overall, after only a couple of days of ownership, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Was initially looking at a TRD Sport Premium, but with the need for a 3rd row, Limited was not an option for my budget. With the $$$ savings, I have a nice pot to do some upgrades on this SR5. Looking forward to seeing everyone get their 6th gens.

you couldn't pay me to go back to leaky hydraulic power steering like in the Frontier, I'm too spoiled
