Unless someone knows otherwise, I understand that there will be NO Right Hand Drive 6th Gen 4Runners i.e. produced for Japan, Australia etc., Is this true? In which case, I am researching to purchase and export one from the USA to the UK. An initial an approach to a Toyota dealer was that he was not interested. Guess this might be due to demand & desirability of the first batch. Anyone got any views on this? Philip

Wouldn't it be dangerous to drive a left-hand drive car in UK (especially in passing) or will you get it converted to right-hand drive after you got it there?

10's of thousands of people from the UK travel to Europe every year with RHD cars (and the same for visitors in LHD cars driving in the UK) and there's never a problem. You simply have to drive with greater care. I've done it for 50 plus years.

I'm also very interested in this!

I saw a post on the 4runner .com (original?) website possibly for the Gen5. model which linked this place in:

https://mycarimport.co.uk/importing-your-vehicle/outside-eu/

Reading through that it claims that the lighting geometry needs changing?? That kinda sucks especially if the main goal is the use the vehicle for expeditions outside the country in LHD domains.

My thoughts are to grab the TrailHunter spec then add an extra lightbar on the roof, front winch, maybe bull (front protection) bars (if they are legal? as I recall they got banned in the 90s), an ICOM 2-way radio (probably a dual-band ID5100-E), and a Garmin Tread Overland XL off-grid GPS navigation system that can also control trailers fitted with the Garmin system
I would also love to have the HUD option.... it is so useful so you can keep your eyes on the road (or trail) and not have to worry about looking down at your instrumentation. - sadly we have too many speed enforcement cameras too which make this even more crucial
Right now I use one bought from Amazon plugged into the OBDII port that does the trick so if the Gen6. has an OBDII port with standard code sequences it should work?

Then I'm thinking about either an RTT or possibly MDC XT16 trailer, Imperial Outdoors 145 (the X195 may be too much tow weight for the rig to handle), or a Pause Reboot (which again might be over tow weight)

@mars001 - to answer about LHD in a RHD country.... the Japanese do this all the time! I have a close friend who owned an LHD Camaro and modded the heck out of it. It's quite popular out there to do stuff like that.

Also if you check out the Expedition Overland Youtube channel they took their rigs over to South Africa which is a RHD country from Montana. I think they selected to take a Tundra, Sequoia, and either a 4Runner or was it a Tacoma?
Anyway, it's part of the Africa episodes where they went from S.A. over to Botswana then into Namibia and that's about as far as I got watching.... haha

Also as @Hotfire2025 pointed out, many people travel into the continental mainland which is all LHD.

It's tricky for me deciding as I really love the Gen6. TrailHunter! My other options would probably be a Lexus LX570 import from Japan which would be difficult as I'd need to mod it for 'overland' specific use, another alternative would be the HiLux which I think is it the Indonesian or Thai market that has a V8 engine in the truck? Then that would have to have an R.A.D. offroad body kit added which again is from Thailand so would need to get in touch with the Australian distributor and see about getting the parts shipped maybe from there?
- complicated basically

The major problem for me is that my current Lexus IS250 just doesn't have any ground clearance. I got stuck a few times up in Scotland and it's not exactly the ideal vehicle to start an overlanding adventure in either which is something I'm looking to get involved in:

If anyone is interested -
