I have a question. Since dealerships have yet to receive allocations, wouldn't providing a deposit to a dealership result with you being locked into purchasing one of whatever allocation they do end up receiving (which may not be your exact preference) or you forego your deposit and buy from a dealership that does have exactly what you want? Maybe I am not understanding what it means to be put on the list? Is that just simply telling the dealer what you are looking for and without leaving a deposit?

This thread in the Ordering/Reservation discussion section was helpful to me in understanding that Toyota doesn't really have an "ordering" to spec system like other manufacturers:

Link: 2025 4Runner "Ordering" and Allocations Explained

But essentially you're correct. Having a deposit / reservation down with a dealer just gets you priority (over later deposit holders) to choose whatever the dealer gets allocated from Toyota in terms of 4Runner specs. And if you don't get the specs you want in whatever the dealer receives in their first wave of deliveries, then you just wait until future allocations/deliveries to the dealer. Or you just choose a spec that they have which is close enough to your desired build.

That's why it's important to make sure your deposit is refundable. If you spot something at another dealer that you want to buy, you just get your deposit refunded from the original dealer.

Anyone know if any dealers in Chicago are taking deposits or assembling a waiting list? I’ve spoken with two, and both said that they don't maintain a waiting list.

Put a deposit down on a Limited at Walnut Creek Toyota

Edit:

I talked to the internet sales manager. No allocations yet to the San Francisco Bay Area. There are about 4 people ahead of me on the Limited Wait List but they all want specific colors. I'm not as picky about the color as long as it's not black so they said I might get mine earlier than the 2-4 months they predicted.

Having said that, I'm looking for fully loaded, 4wd and 3rd row, so I dunno how available those will be.
