Interesting though. However, I can't see them doing something like this that is not soft top. It just makes it too inconvenient to get into the back. Honestly I can't see them doing something like this at all.
I think a big reason you don't see vehicles like this anymore is that the market has changed. Cheap new vehicles don't really exist like they did in the 80's and 90's. I think a big part of that is that vehicles are made much more to last than they were back then. Cars back then would often crap out after only 100K. Now, if people want a cheap vehicle they buy used as it will still last for quite some time.
That also means that new vehicles are not as affordable for younger owners. Those younger owners are the ones more likely to not care about a back seat.
