Interested to know if anyone refused to take their 6th gen. I could not test drive. My truck is in and if I don't like the new motor I am walking.. did anyone do that or have you all been happy. Just curious...

You can refuse to take the car prior to signing/closing. With that said; if you put down a deposit for it, i'd highly check to make sure it's refundable or the terms.

My dealer was telling me that it was non-refundable, at that point I was walking away & I drafted and had them sign a paper stating that 1 week prior to delivery; they have to notify by both text & email, at that point I have 24hrs to back out fully refundable in the event that I choose to not go through with the purchase. Works for both of us.

I highly advise test driving prior to committing to the new gen.

Which motor did you not like and why?

For what it's worth, I'm impressed with the new engines responsiveness. I was worried about it going in, but driving it made me a believer. It's primarily my wife's vehicle, so it wasn't going to be a dealbreaker for me. I've since seen a dyno video on the engine in a Tacoma, and the RWHP were close to what Toyota is claiming at the crank. So if that sample of one is accurate, the specs are underrated.

I drove the Tacoma in gas and hybrid before deciding on the hybrid. I imagine they'll drive fairly similarly, or at least the engines will have similar characteristics.

I drove a TRD OR Premium a couple days ago. Compared to my 5th Gen Trail Edition it was more nimble and had great accelleration. Big difference (good thing).

I don't understand where all the hate for the 2.4Th come from. I bought a Cavalry Blue Pro 4Runner in January 2018, but 63,000 miles on it. I traded it in on a Land Cruiser Premium Plus in August 2024, put 3,000 miles on it before it was destroyed by an assclown who crashed into me at 70mph.

The engine and transmission on the LC is a huge improvement over the Gen 5 4Runner. I take my rigs snowboarding 20-30 times a year and climbing 4,000 feet my 4Runner was always downshifting and running a ton of revs to maintain 60mph. The LC never downshifted and just used all that torque to climb climb climb. Everything is so much smoother and quieter.

It is probably fair to say that these new engines won't last 300k without a rebuild, but that doesn't concern me.

There was a lot of hate here and elsewhere over a "4Banger" out performing the V6. Many who commented sounded like it was an insult to their manhood going to the Turbo 4.

Time will tell but having driven one, I'm sold.
