Good call out, hopefully that's the case!If it is, indeed, a supplier capacity problem, it would be a lot harder to find a Land Cruiser if they didn't make it optional... because they wouldn't be building any Land Cruisers except for 1958s.
I expect that once the supply catches up, they'll make it a model year change where they offer it on TRD OR trim 4runners and make it standard again on Land Cruisers.
FWIW, there isn't a single TRD OR Tacoma with SDM for sale within 500 miles of me. That's another data point saying that the mechanism is supply constrained right now. Hopefully just something temporary.
