Hi there. For what it's worth, I have a TRD Pro coming in and it was loaded up with Port Installed Options, like the $1,700 roof rack and other things I didn't need. At that point, it was just going into build in Japan and wasn't on the ship yet. The dealer had all the PIO's removed that I wanted and added in a few others I did want. If your dealer is saying they can't do that, it's BS. They won't be able to remove the moonroof, but any option listed as a PIO, they 100% can remove.

Also, @Hacksaw made a good point, if there isn't sales tax on a car in Delaware, where is the additional $6k or so coming from? Definitely dig into that.
100% true - anything PIO before it hits the vessel can be removed. My dealer gave me a list and asked me what I wanted and what I didn’t. And, I was able to add whatever I wanted as long as it was before it hit the vessel. I call BS as well if they’re saying it can’t be removed.

My opinion is offer them true MSRP (don’t pay for the port installed stuff whether removed or not) plus tax (if applicable) and license. If a deal can’t be struck….walk away. Wait a few months and you’ll get that price easily. Probably get now if they know you’ll walk. They may allow you to walk and then call you back a few days later. Even if they don’t just be patient and you’ll get MSRP without all the add ons and port installed stuff. Remember a recession is coming and it’s probably already arrived in the car industry. You have leverage even on a new model.

If it’s what you want I would jump on it. If not, know that a newly allocated vehicle can typically have all PIO added/subtracted. This is done by the dealer.

66,400 is including taxes? Factory and port installed options they will never budge on. They wouldn’t even take the cross bars off mine.

Dealer installed accessoires is a different thing, but looks like that’s not the case on this one. I think it’s a take it or leave it thing, and there will be enough people that will take it.
What is the tax in your state? Does this dealer charge a delivery and prep fee? Only buy the car if you really want it. Is it the color trim you wanted? The hybrid will add more power to the car. You have to go with your heart. Most of the sale prices should be about the same no matter where you buy the 4Runner. The tax rate depends on the state you live in.

@Dphotos after reading the comments in this thread I had actually send some of the screenshots from this thread to my dealer, who sent it to her manager, who in turn put in the request. Just saw that they ended up taking off all the PIO things I didn't want. It's now exactly what I want. Now it's just hoping that the 25% tariffs don't impact the one I have on the way..

I saw last night on the news about the new tariffs on all imported cars. I am so upset about this. I have waited a long time for this new Limited design and now we have to deal with these ridiculous tariff's. The consumers always pay for tariffs. I sent an E-mail to my dealer about the costs of the 4Runners with the new tariffs. I have not heard back. I do not want an American car. I used to have a Jeep and it was always in the shop and the repairs cost a lot of money. I bought a new 1997 Toyota 4Runner which is still my daily driver. My car has been so reliable and I am very happy with Toyota 4Runners. So I am Toyota brand loyal.

I paid MSRP for my 2011 4Runner Limited in November of 2010. One of the first dozen or so to get dispersed across the state. I have a TRD Off Road Premium ordered w/o obligation to buy it when it arrives. There is a 2.5% tariff we pay now, add another 25% and I fold.

If you could commit on one that has been built you might avoid the tariff that supposedly goes into effect on April 3. An extra $1600 is a lot less than the added tariff expense.

2 months ago I paid a deposit on one that was not equipped exactly the way I wanted it, but then kept on checking the Toyota "View Inventory" web pages until I'd find a better match. When I'd find one my dealer was willing to try for dealer trades. He failed on the first 3 but was successful on #4. It's in the US now and he assured me that the tariff wouldn't apply.

I haven’t heard of this before. So on top of the $500 refundable deposit you paid another $1600? What was the reasoning behind it from the dealer’s perspective? To lock in the price? Or am I misunderstanding what you’re referring to?

@Tofur01 because Trump is implementing a 25% import tariff coming week on all imported cars. That includes all cars built from outside of the US, like Japan.

According to the report downloadable here: https://kogod.american.edu/autoindex/2024
the 2024 4runner had 0% US/Canada content. Assuming that is still true for the 2025 (anyone who has taken delivery, the % US/Canada content would be listed on the official Monroney sticker from the car (it's not on the digital Monroney you can get from dealer websites)), it would apparently mean that 100% of the MSRP is subject to the 25% tariff. Not to mention your sales tax would increase by 25% too.

For vehicles with some non-zero Canada/Mexico content, the White House memo (available here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presiden...s-and-autombile-parts-into-the-united-states/ ) says those vehicles (Tacoma would be in that category) will take some time to figure out exactly how much of MSRP is subject to the 25% tariff. But sadly, unless that number is not zero for the 2025 4runner, the tariff could go into effect right away since there's nothing to calculate or debate.

But the fact remains, nobody really knows what knee-jerk changes might go into the policy before it's implemented. I think the best hope for 4runner tariffs to be delayed might be for the auto industry to file a lawsuit (e.g. challenging the national security threat claim that is the basis of the EO) and get the implementation of the tariff delayed for many months as it is tied up in courts.
