First 2025 4Runner (TRD Off-Road Premium) goes offroading/crawling at Moab -- by TFL
Nice watch over some morning coffee thanks.
Looks like climbing/crawling up 30 degree incline and descending is easy peasy.
Nice to hear the gas non-hybrid engine has plenty of torque in 4L.

I was really impressed that the stock 2.4 non hybrid did that well. I think for anyone that’s concerned about losing the V6, that they should be feeling a little better after watching that performance.

Yeah sorta hoping they show the process of removing it, planning to take delivery in about 10 days off mine and a big road trip this summer and would like to be able to leave the air dam at the campsite but have it for the long drive portions.
you know, driving on the freeway up hills at high speed in higher gears is actually harder on the engine. Slow speed off-road up inclines in low range doesn’t require a lot of engine torque, rpm, or throttle input. The biggest challenge is keeping the engine cool because of very little airflow.
That looked pretty effortless. Curious at what angle incline / descent would have given a stock 4Runner TRD Off-Road issues.
Downhill Assist Control (DAC) system also makes the descent look easy, almost too easy since then you can't take as much credit for gnarly descents
This 100%. I see so much vitriol for the new engine, despite the fact that on paper it’s better. I have no experience with the previous version but I’ve heard good things. Other than the fact that it’s well proven, it was definitely outdated from what I gather. People are just very reluctant to change. I have Jeep JL 6 cylinder and I previously owned the 4 banger. I can say without a doubt that the 4 was more fun to drive. Haven’t heard resounding issues on it either and I’d trust Toyota much more than Stellantis on building a quality 4-Cylinder.
let them still cling to the old v6/v8 mentaility, just leaves more for us that dont care about epeen.
