Undecided TRD Offroad Premium v TRD Sport Premium - INPUT REQUESTS

This was my previous 4Runner. I was such a poser then with this Pavement Princess of mine.

My 2025 TRD Sport Premium will be next-level nicer, IMO, but I will still be a poser.

My feelings are not hurt. believe me.

I just find it comical when people are so judgmental about this stuff.

What made you give up the 5th Gen for a 6th Gen?

What made you give up the 5th Gen for a 6th Gen?

The fact that my 2016 5th gen looks almost identical to a 2010 and a 2024 4Runner. Look around next time you are out driving. The 5th Gens are everywhere and for good reason, they are great vehicles but they are sadly outdated.

Look at a side by side of a 5th Gen and a 6th Gen and it will be obvious why I sold my 5th Gen. Both are great looking vehicles but IMO, the 6th Gen is much, much better looking. Look at my screen name for this forum: ModernDay4Runner. Every review mentions how the 5th Gen was so long overdue for an update. I sold my 5th Gen before any of the reviews came out because it was obvious to me what I was going to do once I saw pictures online of the 6th Gen. I did not wait for reviews, I sold mine to bank the money for the purchase of the 6th Gen.

Now that I read the reviews, I know I did the right thing. Of course all the 5th Gen owners that are haters of the new modernized, more powerful, more technologically laden 6th Gen, they believe the values of the 5th Gen skyrocketed when the 6th Gen was released because, in their minds, this vehicle is going to be a flop.

I disagree and we'll see, only time will tell but I do know that I am glad I sold my 5th Gen and I have a 6th Gen on the way.

LOL, yep, that is is Nodak. I race my 4Runner against every Honda Civic that crosses my path. (Wait, that is when I am driving my Mustang.) I am pretty sure you were just kidding as I have commented on how some people are so wrapped up in a 4Runners 0-60 time, which is probably the least important thing to me.

Here's the deal with the "poser" comments or people pushing you to the Off Road vs the Sport: unless you are going on very serious trails (lets be real, most owners aren't), you don't NEED the rear locker or other off road gizmos. This is coming from someone who currently owns a 5th gen Trail that was drawn to it for having all the off road extras (crawl control, rear locker, multi terrain select). I've used the rear locker exactly once in my 7 years of ownership on a trail. The others I was with on the same part of the trail did not have lockers and they were just fine. The vast majority of owners don't need or will rarely use those features. I'm getting a Sport Premium myself. I don't like that it comes with 20 inch wheels and highway tires, but wheels and tires are probably the easiest mod to a vehicle and I'm prepared to make those changes. Good tires and 4 low will get the majority of owners where they want to go. I initially wanted an Off Road Premium. I personally don't like the black plastic fenders, and I really wanted Wind Chill Pearl, which isn't available on the OR. The price difference between the two is negligible, and I preferred the styling of the Sport, so that's what I went with. Styling and hybrid vs non-hybrid should be your deciding factors. The Sport is not offered in a hybrid if that's what you want.

ngfilla94, you have pretty much perfectly said what I was trying to say but you have the added credibility because you've lived it, you've bought an Off-Road when you really do not need one.
Apparently you and I are getting the same vehicle (Windchill Pearl TRD Sport Premium) and therefore, that is what the OP needs to be getting. LOL. Kidding.

As far as the fake hood scoop on the Sport Premium, (1) I would estimate that about 99% of the hood scoops seen on vehicles on any given day are non-functional. and (2) how much visibility can this thing really impair?

I honestly do not love the wheels that come on the TRD Sport Premium as I prefer the all-black wheel, but everything else about the vehicle is perfect for me and as ngilla94 said, wheels and tires are the easiest mod there is to make, if I ever decided to go down that path. My initial thought is that given the cost of this new 6th Gen, I am going to let myself fall in love with the wheels once we meet in person. If not, then I will make a change.

Regarding the Off-Road version having the best resale value, I doubt that. I recently sold my 2016 SR5 Premium and I saw what was on the market in my area when I was selling mine. The condition of the vehicle and the mileage seem to have a much bigger impact on vehicle price than whether or not the 4Runner had all the off-road gizmos. As was mentioned, most 4Runners do not need all those off-road gizmos so no need to pay for them now with the hopes someone else will pay for them if you sell the vehicle, IMO.

So, to summarize and as I said in my initial reply to his post, the styling of the vehicle should be the primary thing that guides the OP towards his decision.

And...you just put your spin on it as I think you're implying that the Sport Premium has no substance because it lacks all the off-road gizmos that will go mostly unused. LOL.

Correct me if I read your response wrong.

And since your first view point on why not to buy the Sport Premium was due to the visibility issue caused by the fake hood scoop, you are just repeating what someone else said, obviously, but help me understand how much impact you think that will have. I am really curious about this point.
