I can’t wait to hear you whine about the 4Runner.
I don't think he's whining. I get it. My GF's BMW SUV feels so much better than my Jeep. You can feel it when the engine, transmission and car fit together. The BMW feels responsive and nimble and it is fun to drive. I was happy with the LC but I also don't care much about the engine, how it sounds and if it's fun to drive. At 60-70k I understand that he doesn't want to compromise on that feeling.

I never understood why Toyota is not offering different engine option in the US while those engines exist in other countries. If they would offer the LC with the Hybrid, a Diesel, and a 6 cylinder they would sell three times as many of them even if they charge 2k more for the Diesel or the 6 Cylinder.

Well, it gets really old post after post. Besides, this is a 4Runner site.

Other countries have different emissions and federalization requirements. It costs considerable money to add different engine options for the US market (emissions, crash testing, etc).

They absolutely would not sell 3x more. Some number of buyers that are currently buying the hybrid would choose the other engine options, so there's no conquest there. Some number of buyers would be brought into the LC from other models, but some portion of those buyers would be cannibalized from the GX or 4Runner. We have more overlap than we've ever had in Toyota SUVs with 3 different drivetrain options and 3 different body styles.

If you test drive a vehicle, there is no guarantee it hasn’t been driven and warmed up before you get to goose the gas.

I drove a LC last week and it was a treat compared to my 2012 Tacoma. Much quicker and lively. The steering feedback might have been a little light.

I agonize over the choice between 4R and LC. Both have distinct advantages. Must drive 6G4R!

I've driven the Tacoma hybrid quite a bit as well as a LC or two...And I'm assuming the 4Runner with the hybrid will be similar to them.

I've said this before...They legit drive like a diesel. Gobs of torque right at the bottom with very light throttle engagement, then they fall on their face at higher RPMs and shift really early. People aren't used to that and it gives the perception of slow/lagging/weak. The engine is "grainy" according to the experts (in the LC anyway, it was much quieter in the Limited Tacoma I had). I thought it sounded quite a bit like an OG LC...Tractor-like. Was that on purpose? Maybe. I don't care...It's a whole different vibe, and I loved it.

They are NOT fast. But I'll be coming from a Tundra with the 5.7 V8 and I don't have any hesitations about this engine. Lots of things could turn out to be a deal breaker and make me not buy a 4Runner, the drivetrain isn't one of them.

it should matter if its warmed up or not. a small displacement engine thats not using its turbo is a huge thing. Audis (rs3) won't even boost the engine if it's not fully warmed up. They are selling actually like mad go look at the actual numbers, they have sold more in one year then 9 years of outgoing model. yeah it won't compare to a ineos with the legendary b58 engine. what offroad vehicles have you owned? with that being said the lack of cargo/fuel range might be a deal buster for the LC for me.

man are you really comparing a bmw driving experience to a jeep and toyota offroad vehicle? lets put the bmw offroad for a month and see how it does. the value in a LC is that it can offroad and still be refined enough to pass as a road vehicle.
