When should we expect 2026 4Runner model year to start? Is there a certain calendar month when Toyota usually switches all its models over to the next model year?

My guess is late this calendar year.
model years usually start in sept/october. switch over of a model year/gen usually starts with production starting in july/august. tooling switchover for a gen is usually done in may/june.
for those models that start life mid calendar year, a model year may get extended or shorten
but switchovers are misleading as toyota has went from one gen to the next by actual watching a last model of a previous gen being followed by a new gen model of the same model on the same assembly line. there is a YT video where i guy followed the last gx being built and right behind it was the new gx.

What’s interesting is that Toyota/Lexus still has not delivered any 2025 GXs’ here in the US to my knowledge. It makes me wonder if the 2026 4Runner will also be delayed since the 2025 is just now getting into customer hands. Time will tell, but hopefully they add more optional equipment like moonroofs and heads up displays across the board. More exterior and interior color options would be welcomed.

Yes, the color and feature options don't make a lot of sense to me either.
I understand options cause complexity in production, but until we can sit in a Limited and review the available headroom with seat high or get a TRD Sport Premium without sunroof and preferably not all black interior, it looks like we will be hanging on to our 2022 TRD Sport.
T has let us extend our lease until July with a reasonable offer reducing the purchase price each month, so we are content to let the market sort itself out for a while.

Frankly, I think you will be better off. The first year of any new production is a learning experience for marketing, supply chain and assembly.
