Ceiling Pod / Map Light Console Removal?

Anyone know the secret to removing this pod in the ceiling so I can install a dash cam? I’ve checked how it’s supposed to be removed on the 2024 Tacoma, quite literally just pulling with two hands from the front and it flat out doesn’t work here.

I’ve been pulling on this with various tools, tape, and even a screwdriver and it hasn’t budged.

Going to lose my mind over this since I need to pull it down to install this dash cam.

Just gotta pull hard on the map light console!. This is from a dashcam DIY from a 2024 Tacoma owner:

The most scary part of the process for the new truck is tearing out the top Map Light Console. The first time you take it off will take a lot of force and it seems like something might break, but it won't there are 4 red snap clips holding it in. pull the edge that's closest to the windshield off first, then the back. You also need to pull the visor clip out. You only have to turn it counterclockwise back to 10 o-clock then can pull it out.​

I am going to get power from there as well for my Garmin Mini. Please share what you find up there, -like constant +12v and acc +12v.

I posted the answer right before you replied (right above your post). Just have to pull hard on the map light console to remove it.

Yeah I read that thread before attempting this. I’m not sure if the 4Runner just has a different setup but I was yanking on it hard enough to actually start disassembling the ceiling pod trim but it didn’t remove it. Tried again with me and my wife both pulling as hard as we could and no go.

You don't need to remove the overhead console to install the Dongar with the auto-dimming rearview mirror. OP bought the wrong connector.

The SR5 and multiple other trims do not have the auto dimming mirror. I had to use the ceiling pod harness for this.

Ah my bad, I saw the chunky sensor surround on the mirror and assumed it was auto dimming.

Pulled harder and it did end up coming off. You can’t wrench on this with pry tools or you damage the headliner so it’s sketchy.
