Is it possible to DIY install OEM Digital Mirror or have dealer install as DIO?

I am looking at the allocation list for an ORP that meets my specifications. I find several that meet my needs but no tow package. What I really want is the Digital Mirror. Is it possible to get that as a dealer installed option or can I add the OEM digital mirror DIY after I purchase the ORP? Would really prefer the OEM to an aftermarket mirror.

My guess would be yes. But I bet that mirror will be at least $1,000.

Personally, I want a manual mirror, but I'm likely to get stuck with a digital mirror. Maybe we could swap.

The digital mirror has a switch to make it a traditional mirror.

digital mirror will also call for the camera install that is an additional cost and the accompanying minor bits and pieces. also forgot the wiring to run the camera feed to the mirror. oh also you would have to pull the headliner and interior panels to run the wire from the rear of the 4runner all the way to the rearview mirror. good luck with that

typically the cost to FIO/PIO cost is 2-3x up to 5x the cost in parts, not including labor unless you do it yourself.

adding a FIO/PIO option after the fact you have to piece meal the parts from the parts manual. toyota usually doesn't make kits to do this or have all the parts listed as one entry.

Thanks for the info, that's what I was afraid of. I will keep watching the allocations.

My dealer said it was an easy upgrade no headliner removal and that it would just plug into the camera assembly above the existing mirror. As far as cost goes I didn’t ask and I have no idea.
