I have been trying to determine how much of the interior has soft touch on a TRD Sport Premium and I'm specifically curious as to whether or not it's included on the arm rests on at least the front drivers and passenger side doors. There haven't been a ton of Youtube videos put out on production models, so I'm relying on pictures currently. Since those aren't super clear I was hoping someone who has been inside one could confirm.

Hi, unfortunately, the top and side are hard plastic, the arm rest is soft. :)

I personally like the hard plastic in my TRD Sport. It makes looks even tougher even inside. The arm rest in the middle is soft material. Also the door handle above the blue accent has a softer material as well so there is enough spot to rest your arm in a longer trip…

Even the TRD Off Road Premium has hard plastic up at the window, per TRD Jon's video of his new 4Runner. The Limited and Platinum do have soft touch up at the window, however.

Thanks all for the info. Once I saw that the ORP had the hard plastic I almost assumed, but I hoped with this being more of a mall crawler trim that it would be there. Thanks for the confirmation though.

Do you all think the hard material or the soft material has a higher cost? If the soft material is more costly to Toyota and therefore more costly to us consumers, maybe they limit the use of the soft material to keep the cost down. I am thinking the hard surface is more durable and can withstand a little more exposure to the elements. I sold my 2016 4Runner SR5 a few months ago and could not remember what I had on my doors. Here is the best picture and it seems like there actually was soft material near the window, and not just on the armrest.

Yes. My 2017 SR5 has it. I’m going to miss it honestly unless I’m willing to spring for a top trim that has it. I’m still trying to decide if it’s worth it or not.

I am getting a TRD Sport Premium and I don't even know what to expect in this regard. I am wondering if I am just living the best life because I am not worried about this, the lack of dual zone climate control, the obscenely obstructive view/lack of visibility caused by the fake hood scoop, or the tractor noise of the "4 banger", etc. The list just goes on and on about all the things that are wrong with this 6 Gen and to me, I am so excited and not worried about any of that stuff. I am infatuated, that is it. Once I meet my new vehicle in person, she will get on my nerves, I am sure of it. LOL. (Not really.)

What is the price difference between the TRD sport premium and the Platinum? I'm just curious. I know you get a lot more with the Platinum than just those things you mentioned and I'm just curious if the cost difference.

The part that is not soft looks like its a part of the door panel, could one find out the part number on a platinum and say for $80 order that individual part and swap it out for a little more soft touch?

I was actually able to test drive one today and confirmed for myself that everyone else was correct, it’s hard plastic. Rode well, much smoother acceleration than the 5th generation. Hood scoop wasn’t too bad to me in terms of blocking the visibility. The one I test drove was Cutting Edge. Not my particular cup of tea, but it looked even more out of place on the Sport Premium with all of the gloss black accents on this trim. I’m aiming for a black one personally to have it all blend. Interior is really nice to me.

If you are in GA and feel like losing your mind to pay a $10k markup, Stone Mountain Toyota has it available on the lot. I laughed at the sale guy when he told me they were doing that.
