I kind of feel the same way. I think it's because the smart Toyota software engineers could do it and they knew that it looked cool. Then the marketing guys saw it and it stayed. Other than that, yes I find it pretty useless too. The top-down view on the other hand is very useful. I will probably eventually forget how to park or pull into my disaster of a garage without this feature.i have yet to figure out why toyota has this view. its the most useless view on any car i have ever seen in my opinion.

If you think this is useless, just wait for what Toyota has planned in store next. I read an article about how the design guys in Texas are using a 3D gaming engine as part of their next driver UI design. Maybe we'll be wearing augmented VR helmets next like the guys in 5th gen fighter aircraft. Yes, I have a wild imagination. But reality keeps coming up with weirder things than my imagination.
