its usually the air injector system, low hum noise of a motor.

side effect, if you dont drive your vehicle for a week or two, it will drain your battery
Really? It'll drain the battery after sitting a week or 2? I WFH so it's not unusual that I don't start my cars a week or 2 and use my wife's car, or going on 4-week vacation...

the parasitic drain from modern cars will drain it regardless, this just speeds it up since it cycles for about 5-10 mins, not really sure how long since i dont sit there and time it when i hear it running in the garage randomly at night on my 2014 4R

It cycles from time to time and not just once after shut off? What exactly is the purpose? My 4th Gen 4R doesn't do it.

5th gen they introduced an air injection system that will run after about 5hr after last ignition on. not sure if cycle every 5 hrs or what, its never gone into detail in the owners manual

to clarify, its the fuel evaporation system doing a check after about 4-5 hrs.

also to add, this is why you dont keep filling after the fuel pump nozzle shuts off. otherwise you will destroy the charcoal canister

EVAP system, a small air pump pumps the vapors above the liquid in the gas tank through an activated carbon filter. It has to do with emissions, but a big benefit is not having gasoline fumes in your garage. This system can be ruined if you overfill the gas tank too, so make sure that you don't keep filling after the hose shuts off when you're at the gas station.

It definitely won't drain down after a week. Cars sit on the lot for well over a week and don't have dead batteries. The toyota official TSB for long term storage calls out something like 1/month starting.

i guess i should have added an asterisk to my post *

colder climates will burn thru your battery faster than warmer climates. i know if i dont drive my 4R after like 4-5 days in -30F temps it wont start :) so on sunday i put a trickle charger on it all day sunday so i dont have to fight at 5am on monday to start mine to goto work :)
