if you want an idea of the size of the portal regional port, its really fracking huge. zoomed in aread is the loading zone for the rail cars. notice the ramps to ease loading of cars.

some of the smaller ports have moveable ramps instead of fixed one.

Yes it’s MASSIVE!! One of my friends works there, it’s like a city! ;)

Thanks for the photos. I was just joking with some friends on the east coast after they jokingly suggested I just hop in an Uber and go pick it up.

Part of the reason why it feels like a cave inside is because the headliner is now black. It has been gray since way back when I had a 4th Gen. I'm 6'2" and I felt claustrophobic inside. FWIW - I can't see over the hood either. They totally changed the windshield. It feels smaller from top to bottom and the slope feels different. It took me a little time to get used to the limited view.

Wondering if you might consider a "purple" brand seat cushion. Seriously, I bought one of these for my desk chair. They are insanely comfortable and it might give you enough lift to see over the hood.

I've been curious about this. You validated some concerns I've had with this new design. Honestly, I'm loosing interest in the 6G 4R by the day. I'll make up my mind after driving one, but I have concerns and for the price, they really aren't offering much luxury inside. I didn't like the previous generation because it felt like the hood was in my face. It's now sounding similar.

When I drove the 2024 4Runner, I thought it was fantastic, felt like I had a good commanding view of the road. 5’1” female, I know I have different issues from the people at the other end of the height spectrum. 😅 I had to let go of my 4Runner dream. Yesterday I drove a RAV4 in the Highlander, I will be getting on a list for a limited Highlander. No I can’t tow my boat with it, but that’s OK., I’d rather be able to see as I drive around town😂
Hope you have a totally different experience once you sit inside of one!! 😊

My parents recently got one and it's great. My mother in law had hers for 10 years and only recently moved on. She's already complained about missing it LOL

Highlanders are fantastic.

Thanks for that about the Highlander! It’s helping to ease my sorrow🤣

A couple of things that makes the 5th Gen feel the way it does are how vertical the windshield is, and how close it is (at the bottom) to the driver. Short dash. It's a strange feeling that pretty much only the 4Runner, Jeep, and Bronco have. Oh...And the new Land Cruiser. It makes it feel like you're right above the hood and feels wildly different from most cars.

6th Gen raked that windshield back, and I didn't get that same vibe. Dash is longer and the black headliner makes it feel smaller in there too. I'm fine with it. But I'm with you on the content at the price level. 60k ORP and doesn't have dual zone or heated rear seats? That's absurd.

I can get a REALLY nice used pickup for 60k.

I don't see those as much of a compromise. The only reason they're not on my shortlist is because everybody else in my family seems to have one :D

My wife at 5'2" has the same problem with visibility. She could not raise the seat high enough. Her dream of a Limited was a disappointment also. As a previous and current owner of multiple 4R's, the 6th gen has the worst visibility all around. I parked my 4th gen front to back to a new one and the sides were higher and the glass area had to be 25-30% less on the 6th gen.

Unless you're a diehard Toyota fan you might look at the new Honda Passport Trailsport Elite. We're waiting for one to come in to check it out. No 4L but has some pretty good off road qualities according to early reviews. Good luck.

Seat spacers are a thing. I have them in my GX. Mine are for comfort though since I am 6-1.

Maybe consider getting a Corolla Cross.

After we parted with our beloved 1997 4Runner, we had a Highlander for a while, and it never left us stranded, but we knew it couldn't take us to all the places we wanted to go, so we have a 2010 4Runner now.

I just came from a highlander I'm 5'8 and yes the hood "blocks" some of my view I guess but not of anything important for my height. I drove a 5th Gen probably 10 years ago and hated the nose dive and the breaks, this new 4runner is quieter than my 2020 Highlander was, rides great, has just as much cargo room but will finally be able to hit the trials. We have missed out on seeing so much driving a highlander and not being able to go off road. Highlander and grand highlander are awesome if you have no need to go off road.

So disappointed for your wife! 😔
Thank you! I decided on a Highlander hybrid (not grand)…can’t tie my boat, but we can fit more people snow skiing! ⛷ shops your wife finds the perfect rig! 😊
