Almost 4 grand in unselected and unskippable trash add ons from the port and the dealer.

This is why Toyota hasn't gotten me to buy a new vehicle from them in years. It just keeps getting worse and they don't care. My last couple were new, but I'll 100% go back to buying used because of this.

Dealers do have some say on what PIO get added to their allocations. In early 2022, my brother wanted to buy a Highlander. They looked at the allocations and found the trim and color he wanted. It was early enough that they were able to drop the nonsense PIO and added a hitch for him. It was all done at the "port". Most dealers don't care enough to change them, though. The nonsense PIOs add profit and it is more than the bare minimum work. They want that profit and if you don't buy it, someone else will.
What does it really mean "done at the port"? Toyota has full service garages at every port to install accessories?

Toyota makes great vehicles but at $50+k, the vehicle has to come exactly how I want it - it's non negotiable.

That's why we've gone with other brands that allow custom factory orders.

Yep. The 5th gen 4Runner Pros arrived to port with steel wheels and standard suspension. Steelies and stock bits are scrapped and the pro wheels, fox suspension, and a few other things get added once the vehicle is on this side of the planet.

If the pricing of higher trim 4Runners is close to the Land Cruiser or the GX550, then there will likely be some cross shopping so I’m looking forward to the 4Runner taking some demand off those other vehicles.
Me too? I've been eagerly awaiting the new 4Runner, but TRD Pro prices got me looking at the Lexus GX 550, which I had never considered. The GX Overtrail fills my desires more than the 4Runner or Land Cruiser. The V6, EKDSS, double sway bar disconnect, extra comfort plus killer looks has me drooling. The 2025 model will get a 1" lift w/added inch of ground clearance and factory installed air compressor. I'm smitten!
Now comes justifying $80k+ price of a base Overtrail. Amortized over 10 years, the cost is justifiable for me, so need to decide if I'll be happy for that time period. I feel the GX w/V6 will age better than a 4 cyl plus battery. After contacting several dealers, seems Lexus sales teams are a bit more obnoxious than Toyota and also have unwanted dealers add-ons. Need to take my time and test drive everything before a final decision.

We experienced that as well for the GX550. We told them we'll check back in when the 2025s get on the ground. Not going to pay for dealer add-ons.

I’ll be honest. The closer the 6th Gens get to hitting dealer lots, the more smitten and sentimental I get with my fully paid for 5th Gen. It’s technically my daily, but I really only drive it to the Airport and back once a week for work and that’s about it. I’m going to be patient and wait until at least this time next year and let the inventories build up the hype die down just like with what happened with the Gen 4 Tacomas. I want a deal, and my Gen 5 really is a great vehicle. Everything I need and nothing I don’t. If you have to have one of the first to hit the US, then by all means have at it, but you are probably going to pay at least MSRP and depending on the trim, possibly more. If you’re patient however, there will be much better deals by this time next year. For now though I’m on team wait.

I just returned from driving a GX 500 Luxury trim, since the Overtrail I had an appointment to drive sold before I arrived. Wow, it is amazing. I had never seen a 550 in person and they're a little smaller than I imagined which is a plus for me. There are beautiful too.

The main thing I wanted to do was stomp on the engine a bit and I got to do that. The V6 feels and sounds awesome. I have a Bronco V6 Sasquatch which has pep, but the GX 550 gives more! The driving experience exceeded expectations. The interior is beautiful. I played with the 3rd row seats which lay nice and flat in the cargo area and you lift with two separate buttons, one for each side. Super cool. I loved the hatch and the opening window. The Luxury had the individual rear seats which I really like, but prefer the bench seats. The Overtrail buyer was kind enough to let me in his and I liked the bench seats there.

The dealer I went to charges MSRP without add-ons except for the dealer fee ubiquitous in Florida. I think you can't go wrong with any trim and I found myself thinking the Luxury which was available would make me perfectly happy. Maybe happier than an Overtrail, but I want the off-road kit for the occasional adventure. If I'm going to splurge, I'm happy to wait for the 2025 to get the extra ground clearance (May, June?). Gives me time to drive the new 4Runner first. Advice, go drive a 550. It may make you giddy.

I pretty much have similar sentiment. My last 4R was in 1999...and a Highlander in between for a bit. I'll know more after I can test drive one and see if it's something I need to have...or not.

That’s my understanding. I’m not a video guy, but enjoyed seeing this one on how it’s done.

Thank you! I had no idea! I thought they were shipped directly from Japan to dealers!
