My local NJ dealer just sent me details of an allocation for Feb.
It's for the TRD Sport Premium part time AWD, which is what I wanted which is $56,060 per the basic build list, no sunroof wanted.
It's stuffed with $4,272 of extras which after delivery, taxes etc, they want $63,227 for....
Looks like I'll be hanging on to the current 2022 4R for a while yet. Interesting is that it's a lease and Toyota finance has let me extend for 6 months to let supply settle down and about half of the payment goes to reduce the residual if I decide to buy it out.

I wonder who decides on the extras dealer or T HQ.

I think you are with the minority if I'm being honest. Looks pretty similar to every other 4R that we've seen now over multiple generations. I also don't see this forum going off like I've seen with other brands where people were chomping at the bit to get one. I'm curious, but have no real expectations at this point. I know how the 4 banger turbo's run, but I've never been a fan of Toyota's styling, and the only aspect that really matters is the interior. I'll know more when I drive one. If it feels and drives like the current generation, I'll be walking.
I seriously doubt the 2025 4Runner feels and drives like a 5th gen.

I am in Canada, dealer markups not as prevalent as far as I know.
The dealership I have my order in with is markup free. As they said vehicles are expensive enough. 👍
No markup but tons of BS options added on.

Checked with all dealers in St. Louis, MO area and they will all be charging $3,000 “market adjustment” on Trailhunter and TRD Pro trims only. At least until Autumn of 2025. Other trims should not be affected by that. Has anyone else seem similar approaches in your area or just all the dealers in my area pulling a trust in the market “because they can”?
Ackerman on Hampton is selling at MSRP except for Trailhunter and Pro. They said $2.5k adjustment on those two.

Yeah I did reach out to the 3 main dealers in STL. I’m looking at either the Pro or Trailhunter with a 3rd possibility being the ORP.

Told them I won’t do business until they remove the “market adjustment”- which they said probably wouldn’t happen until the end of 2025.

I put a deposit down on a TRD SPORT PREMIUM in my local area on the 10th of this month. I looked at the Inventory section of Toyota.com today and the vehicle that dealership had allocated is no longer there. I contact the dealership and they said it was a mix up and the allocation was never meant for them, it was meant for another dealership. I contacted that dealership and they told me they had a deal locked in on the 7th, three days before the local dealership here took my deposit. Has anyone heard of anything like that happening before or did I get played?

Sorry to hear that happened. Impossible to know if the dealer was being honest or not. If it's a dealer with a decent reputation, it's probably unlikely they are using fake allocations to catfish buyers. Dealers are going to sell everyone of these first allocations pretty easily, so I don't see why they'd need to trick a potential buyer like that. They'd lose a future potential customer and also possible public reputation hit.

What's your plan now?

Well, I don't know if a dealership controls what the Inventory page of Toyota.com displays. I used that Inventory page to search within 100 miles of my zip code for the vehicle I wanted. There it was plain as day, the local Toyota dealership had exactly what I wanted. I sent an email asking for the out the door pricing. The added $5k market adjust and -$2k Discount for a total markup of $3K. I counteroffered and said I would buy for MSRP. He emailed me back and said the Sales Manager approved the deal. I want to the dealership the next day, signed a document that detailed the pricing. The sales manager signed it as well. It lists the same VIN that was on Toyota.com allocated to the dealership. I gave a $500 deposit. That all happed last Sunday. This Friday, I returned to the website to the details of my vehicle and low and behold it was no longer assigned to the dealership that I made the deal with. It was assigned to a dealership about 3 hours away. I called that dealership and they said that vehicle was locked into a deal at their dealership effective Monday, the day after I put a deposit down at the dealership close to me. I am sure that once they realized the manager authorized the sale at MSRP, they realized they could be making more money on another vehicle so they did a DX and got a different trim SR5 that they had a buyer for and sold that with the markup they were not getting from me on my deal. I talked to three people that I know that work in the auto sales industry and all three said that is what happened. The dealerships story that the vehicle was never theirs to sell is total bullshit. The best part is that I would have been a repeat customer at that dealership, my last new vehicle was a 2016 SR5 that I purchased from that same dealership. I've sent the GM 4 emails, left two voicemails, and chatted with the dealerships operator, all asking that the GM call me to discuss. Nothing. He is ignoring/avoiding me. I guess he doesn't feel the need to explain to me what happened with my deal.

My plan, since you asked, came to fruition today, I found another dealership in my locale that has an allocation for the vehicle I want and I have a deal at MSRP on that one. They know what happened with the other dealership and they told me there was zero chance the same thing would happen on this deal. I feel comfortable that everything will be good on this deal.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. When looking at the Toyota inventory search page i see the Total SRP with a given number and then the price at that dealer. If those do not match, is that due to additional add on items, or is that an indication of dealer markup? It seems like if there is a difference it is usually in exact even increments of thousands, like 3000 or 5000. I have noticed that the first allocated 4runner at Oursman in Chantilly VA had a difference of exactly 5000 and now their 2 more recent have a difference of exactly 7500. Or is the info in the Toyota inventory page just too inaccurate to tell?

To know for sure, you can ask the dealer for an out-the-door quote. They should send you a document that shows the MSRP, taxes, processing fees, doc fees, and if they are adding an additional markup, that will be shown as well. I just had two more quotes provided to me over the weekend for SR5 Premiums at MSRP with no additional markup. I had another add $5k to the MSRP and he said that was negotiable, a starting point.
